Once upon a time in the West, linen and cotton were all we had, and all we needed. Texas has long been one of the country’s leading cotton producers, which meant our clothes came straight from the land. Lightweight, breathable, and tough, these natural fibers kept folks cool while working cattle or walking dusty roads, and warm when layered through winter.
Most people had one good outfit for church or school, and maybe an extra shirt or two for the everyday. Every piece was well-loved, well-worn, easy to mend, and deeply appreciated. We took pride in our clothes. We did the dishes in them, worked the land in them, branded cattle in them, and still called them our Sunday best.
